Tanning 101
Here are our top tips for getting the most out of your tanning experience at South Beach Tanning Center!
Prepare: Before visiting the tanning bed, be sure to exfoliate your skin in the shower or bath and lather up the lotion when you're finished. Indoor tanning lotion is also a smart idea and will help you achieve optimal results. We keep multiple tanning lotions in stock and available for purchase at the front desk!
Know Your Skin: If your skin tends to burn easily, it is important to make sure that you use low-pressure lamps at least the first few times around. If you naturally have darker skin, you can typically use higher-pressure lamps for longer periods of time, but it's always best to start small if you're a beginner. If you're unsure of the best route to take for your skin type, just ask a staff member!
Wear Proper Eye Protection: Though we have eye protection options available at South Beach Tanning Center, it's always a good idea to bring your own. Proper eye protection is absolutely crucial when it comes to preventing permanent eye damage—your regular sunglasses won't be enough!
Aftercare: Use a tan extender or self-tanner to make your tan last longer between sessions, meaning you can go for longer periods without tanning, and ultimately, protect your skin from unnecessary UV damage.

Before Your Appointment: Do not shave less than four hours before your appointment. You should, however, shower and exfoliate your skin. Instead of bar soap, use a body scrub to remove excess dead skin cells and help the tanning product adhere evenly. Apply petroleum jelly to nail beds and cuticles to keep any excess color from building up in those areas. For a more natural-looking tan, you can also moisturize the palms of your hands to keep them from absorbing too much product!
During Your Appointment: Wear undergarments to protect sensitive areas, and wear protective eyewear. Keep your mouth closed while your technician works, and apply lip balm before your session starts to protect your lips. Be sure to avoid inhaling the product whether you wear nose plugs or not.
After Your Session: For the most radiant results, wear loose, dark clothing and avoid wearing an underwire bra after your appointment. Wear open shoes, such as flip-flops, and don't exercise or perform any activities that cause you to sweat until after your first shower. No stopping at the gym on your way home! For the next 12 -16 hours after your tanning session, avoid excess moisture and try not to get your skin wet.
